Air India Maharaja is having a bitter taste of democracy. In a shocking incident, an Air India staffer was beaten up by a Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad 25 times by his slipper. The pretext was that the ‘honourable’ MP was denied a business class seat on the flight. The MP not only lost his cool but became abusive and violent and humiliated the sixty-year-old staffer in front of the passengers and the crew.
The Air India Duty Manager was on the receiving end but the MP maintained that he had misbehaved with him and he had all right to teach him the lesson. The MP did not stop there but defended his action saying that he was following the teachings of Bala Saheb Thackeray, the Shiv Sena patriarch.
Giving his side of the story, the MP told that he lost his cool as he had the business class ticket but he was made to sit only in the economy class. The Air India staffer on his part said that he had no choice as the business class was full and he could be accommodated only in the economy class as is the normal practice.
Gaikwad said that he had also told the staffer that he was a Shiv Sena MP but the staffer didn’t care and replied that we know only Narendra Modi. Thus the MP had all right to tell the staffer in his own way the powers that are vested in an MP by our democratic system.
The brazen audacity of the MP earned a lot of flak on social media and a FIR was lodged against him by Air India.
In an unprecedented action the Airlines Association of India has blacklisted the ‘chappalmaar’ MP and put him on ‘no-flyer list’. After this, the MP would not be able to fly on any of the domestic airlines. In fact, he had to take a train back to Pune from Delhi as his tickets were cancelled by all the airlines.
